New game-related blogs

There are two new blogs listed on the sidebar of my blog. I’ve been reading Boardgames-To-Go by Mark Johnson for a while now (since he switched providers and got a RSS feed). It’s good read and highly recommended. Then this Dutch blogger mailed me about her blog asking for permission to use my RSS feed to display my latest headlines — permission granted, of course, she wouldn’t have needed to ask but she certainly has good manners — and her blog, Gameblogger, looks promising. (Gender corrected later.)

  1. Thanks for the link. And thanks for pointing out another good gaming blog. Gaming blogs like that are what I am looking for: gameblogs with personal touches (and not ‘news feeds’ from professionals).
As for the RSS feed: I am quite new to that. I have not yet seen any site that incorporates other peoples headlines, and there’s a lot of talk about RSS reader clients, so I wasn’t quite sure what the netiquette on RSS feeds was.
Oh, by the way, I am not a ‘he’ but a ‘she’ 🙂

  2. Sorry for the gender mixup! Just another reason why Finnish is such a superior language with it’s non-gender personal pronouns. =)
RSS feeds are a good way to distribute information… I don’t use anyone elses feeds, but use all the different feeds I produce on my personal blog front page. I think the general way to approach is that the feeds are there to be used — people who provide are liberal. Conservative data hoarders don’t provide RSS feeds.
Do you cache the feeds? It’s not good if it fetches the whole file when someone visits your web site. Some sort of cache system is necessary to cut the traffic.

  3. No, it doesn’t cache the feeds. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a better solution yet. I am still looking.
I doubt my Weblog will attract tons of visitors though 🙂
